Rose Gilbert, an OPC Foundation Scholar Award winner in 2021 and a reporter for Nashville Public Radio, is spending five weeks in Erbil, Kurdistan this month.

“Nashville is home to the largest Kurdish community in the United States and this September, I am traveling to Kurdistan for a five-week-long reporting trip. The plan is to tell the story of the relationship between these two regions — which dates back to the 1970's — through the families and cultural ties that bind them together.”, says Gilbert.

Back in 2021 Gilbert used her OPC Foundation award funding to travel to Lebanon and report on artifact smuggling. The remaining of the funding helped her to kick start her new international project.

You can follow Rose Gilbert’s trip on her landing page where the project description and all updates from Kurdistan will be posted.
