About OPC Foundation
The Overseas Press Club Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with the Overseas Press Club of America. Its goal is to support and promote the next generation of international correspondents, giving them the encouragement and experience they need to launch their careers. Every year, the OPC Foundation awards fellowships and scholarships to some 18 students who have demonstrated a passion to become international correspondents.
Selected by a panel of distinguished judges, these fellows come from a variety of colleges and backgrounds across the U.S. and the world. They share a desire to go to the far corners of the globe to practice truthful, ethical journalism and to produce deep and insightful stories for their audiences. We judge them among the best aspiring journalists of their generation, and in these times, their goals are more important than ever.
Besides funding, the OPC Foundation works with its media partners and arranges real-world experiences, placing fellows in bureaus of The Associated Press, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal and other news organizations and supporting their ongoing education and independent reporting projects now and throughout their careers.
In the past 25 years, the OPC Foundation has singled out more than 400 graduate and undergraduate students, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers at the world’s top media organizations and garnering Pulitzer Prizes, OPC Awards, George Polk Awards, Emmys, Peabody Awards and Loeb Awards.
The Places We’ve Sent Our Fellowship Scholars
OPC Foundation fellows go to where the stories are. They spend up to several months in the international bureaus of major news organizations and gain invaluable experience working with top veteran editors and reporters.
