An evening for future journalists at the Korea Center

“An Evening for Future Journalists - Inspired and Connected” was the theme of a reception hosted by the Office of Press and Cultural Affairs of the Korean Consulate General in New York City at the newly opened Korea Center on the 29th of October. The purpose of the evening was to encourage and inspire Korean and Korean-American college students who are interested in a career in journalism.

The guests consisted of college students mainly from Columbia, NYU and Yale, Korean journalists based in New York City as well as OPC Foundation Board members and former Scholar Award winners Hakyung Kim, Kate Selig and Rachel Nostrant.

The evening started with Consul General Eyn Whan Kim welcoming all the guests to the event. The president of the OPC Foundation John Daniszewski gave a keynote speech encouraging the students to apply for the OPC Foundation Scholar Awards. His speech was followed by Hakyung Kim who had an OPC Foundation fellowship with WSJ in Seoul in 2022 and currently works as a Markets Reporter at CNBC. She offered advice on how to become a successful journalist based on her own reflections and experiences as a person of Korean heritage.

After the speeches the guests enjoyed tasty Korean food and beverages while the aspiring journalists had an opportunity to mingle and engage with professionals in journalism.

The Office of Press and Cultural Affairs of the Korean Consulate General is committed in promoting cultural diversity and inclusion and they are looking forward to supporting both Korean heritage students as well as all students from underrepresented backgrounds. The OPC Foundation was honored to be part of their Inspired and Connected evening.
