Catherine Cartier returns to NYC from Reuters fellowship in Dubai

Catherine Cartier interviewing the Dubai Airport CEO.

Catherine Cartier, the OPC Foundation Reuters Award winner in 2024, is back in NYC after spending the fall in Dubai as an OPC Foundation Reuters fellow.

"Over ten transformative weeks in Dubai, I interviewed the UAE's Minister for Foreign Trade, wrote a profile of a Palestinian Olympic swimmer, and covered the impact of Houthi attacks on shipping in the Gulf. My work also included writing stories based on videos filed by Reuters visual journalists in Gaza. I contributed to reporting on the launch of a cryptocurrency pegged to the UAE dirham, the capsizing of an oil tanker off the coast of Oman, Trump's allies in the Gulf, and more. My OPC fellowship allowed me to realize my goal of reporting from a leading newsroom in the MENA region. But equally importantly, the fellowship introduced me to incredible mentors at Reuters and beyond. I am grateful to everyone in the Reuters Dubai bureau for welcoming me to the team and to the OPC foundation for making this experience possible."

Cartier will be graduating in May 2025 from the New York University. You can read more of her work here.
